So, why aren't you playing AO?
« on: April 17, 2010, 11:18:50 am »
Yeah you. You're reading this, aren't you?

So why aren't you playing? Oh, but I am playing you say? Well that's just great.

But for those of you who aren't, why? And why are you reading this forum? Why are you reading this post? And what is with that underwear? What on earth were you thinking.

But yes, back to AO. Why aren't you playing? Why did you quit? Did you know that:

1) All classes can do well in PVP
2) All content is accessible by a small group (often, under one team), and that infact everything in the game is doable now with under one team if you know what you are doing? - This means gear is pretty simple to obtain, to compete at the highest level.
3) PVP is accessible through battlegrounds style queue system?
4) You can smacktalk your enemies and vice versa in this game?
5) Levelling (as well as alien levelling, especially alien levelling) has been increasingly ramped up relative to when you quit like a crybaby?

I see a lot of people post here about no time, or do not specify reasons. As far as MMO's go, this would have to be the easiest, timewise to be able to stay on top, especially if you have one character to maintain. Most of the people that left definitely had the drive to get to the top in the first place, relative to when they were playing. If you could do that, I would only say it is easier to get back to where you were when you left.

So if you are all like "But kink.. I want to join when the new engine comes!!!"

How about you reactivate now, so you can smash the snot out of all those reactivating people in the not-too-distant future.

Or you could humour me and tell me why you arent playing, so I can belittle you on the internet for the mirth of passers by.

bump.

I took a break from 2005-7 and then played pretty full on until just recently. actually I enjoyed AO as much as, if not more than, ever before during that time. Even though in 2007 there were just a handful of people still active and we had a massive challenge to build the org up again. I guess that was part of the fun.  Plus catching up on all the things I never had time to do and the new content, LE, LoX etc

As of now I had achieved pretty much what I wanted personally (other than some APF nanos), and other existing and returning Stormers were ensuring that the org was going in the right direction. So I took my leave to prepare for our new family addition and play some less demanding games time-wise. Also, paying for 3 accounts when I was hardly online was unnecessary so I have scaled that back some, but still pop in now and again to see whats up, do some base defense (like last night) and make sure Keepone hasnt run off with my Phats :)

I cant see myself every leaving AO completely, but a break now and then works wonders and I'll be back properly at some point. I dont hold out much hope for the new engine, but we never did play AO for eye candy. Some proper new content and/or major changed (pvp balance?) would be the main draw I think.

Well, first off ... my boxers say "Hot Stuff" because I'm hot stuff!

Second off, I'm intrigued by this whole alien leveling thing being so much easier now. I might have to get the Xan expansion pack and check some of this stuff out.

And with the amount of people on nowadays you won't be lonely anymore (unless you are in the timezone of the damned).

That said: More Americans and Aussies need to reactivate!  :police:

I do play but only lightly, and the reasons are numerous.

I work full time as a manager so that 160 hours a month paid and a few hours a night at home planning stuff, then I have a young son who is now 4 years old (doesn't time fly) and he is of an age where he really wants to spend time with his father.

I also play guitar as a proffessional musician this means rehearsals weekley gigs, and all the servicing of that gear and time spent practicing.

Then I have a wife and as we are now both in our middle years are enjoying our second phase of romance.

And then I've developed other interests like off-roading wich means modding your truck meeting with other off roaders and generaly enjoying a second childhood with other people hehe.

So fun as AO is, ..

I love Storm always will, and you too Kink.

I miss you aussie guys though =(

edit: oh yea now I remember...BS never being open+if it didnt open it either close really fast or be totally overrun by one side

SUMMER

Give me your account details so I can tank in APF. Also: Play AO instead of watching TV/Whatever when you're home. Unless it's a threesome, it's better online.

It's understandable if you don't play games at all. Given you work 160 hours a week I think that's something you need to address first, as you're doing about 120 hours a week too much of that. Plenty of time for AO. +1 for crazy car fun though.

See above. Too busy for games = acceptable. However, if you are watching TV you  havent downloaded, then you could be logged in, zomg. I do feel the pain of the lack of BS myself, though. Not going to lie. This however, is not an excuse for 99% of you guys who arent in my timezone anyway. ;)

Me and Lou where never hardcore players (although there was a time when I saw more of Rubi-ka than I saw the city I lived in), I have to say though if AO has become casual friendly, then I am very tempted to come back online....

Having said that, 70-90 hours a week at the new job three kids to care for (newest one 5 days old) it just doesn't open up for a lot of game time.

I miss storm!

I have a very short attention span, plus playing in a time zone where no one plays in didn't make a ton of fun. Having difficulties find a decent job in my area caused me to cancel my account as well.

Now they added a new instance so that people will have the chance to get robust back pack or burden or whatever that could take alot of months to do ofcourse the chances are slim but still possible depends on luck :D . So ao is getting very casual play friendly give it a shot our new storm members and old will take good care of returning players so with new ones.

And what is with that underwear? What on earth were you thinking.

No underwear here, sorry.
More on topic though, I am playing other games that keep me quite busy, although I will admit it's never been the same as it was in AO, or more truthfully Storm's prime.
Sadly I am quite the (graphics) whore, and it's hard for me to get back into AO's visuals, nostalgic as they make me feel :)
If they manage the engine update thingie, I'll surely pop in and check it out.
Until then, I'll just lurk about these forums as usual.
Take care, Lino.
